Juan of the Dead

Dearly Debloggers,

I had the privilege  of seeing Juan of The Dead Friday night at Miami’s Olympia Theater and…

It. Was. Great.

The film takes a look at Cuba’s current (and past) state of affairs – and its cleverly told through a motley (and how!) crew of Cuban professional thieves. While Cuba is taken over by an inexplicable (and comical) zombie toxic event – Juan and his crew only see an opportunity to make a dollar (“Juan of the Dead, we kill your loved ones, how can we help you”).

The film received a standing ovation that was well deserved. After all, it was exquisite writing, direction, setting, character development…every single t was crossed and every i was indeed dotted. From the beginning to the end (including a comic strip closing credits to Sid Vicious’ “My Way”), the entire movie was…perfect.

Although political in nature, this film certainly has all the makings of a cross over cult indie film that will hopefully catapult the writer/director/actors to new heights.

Now playing at the Miami Tower theater.
